Built in 1849-50, she sailed to England in 1851 with a crew of six to compete in the Royal Yacht Squadron’s 50-mile race around the Isle of Wight. The intent was to prove America’s ship building expertise and sailing capabilities. The America won the race by eight minutes and from that point on, the event became known as the America’s Cup.
The America’s length was 1012 feet and she weighed approximately 70 tons.
The model is 1/8 inch scale. The hull is single-planked on bulkheads.
